Same thinking, different delivery

The reasoning behind this answer is the same either way. What changes is its shape on arrival: a few ranked claims laid out at once, with depth parked behind branches you open on purpose.

As a chat reply

One stream, read in my order. Depth arrives whether or not you wanted it. It scrolls away.

As this view

A small set of claims at once, read in your order. Depth is optional. It stays put and can be pointed at.

It commits. Nothing appears until the whole thing is composed, and the wording is then fixed.
It forces ranking. Something has to be the centre, so the answer has to be decided before it is written.

Caveat: for a one-line question this is overhead, and a single flat page is a perfectly valid version of this format.

For you: a map you steer

The practical difference is control. You see the whole shape before committing attention to any part of it, and you decide what gets opened.

Skimmable shape, chosen order, depth on demand, and a view that persists instead of scrolling away.

Given up

Linear narration, watching it stream, one block of text to copy, and the asides prose hands you for free.

Ranking first. In chat I can hedge by adding another paragraph. Here, anything that doesn't earn its place reads as noise.

Costs, and what stays the same

Costs

Latency before anything appears, overhead on simple questions, and detail that navigation can hide from you.

Unchanged

The underlying work, the standard of truthfulness, and your option to simply ask for prose instead.

Structure flatters itself: a clean layout looks more authoritative than the claims inside it. Judge the claims, not the arrangement.

For this answer specifically, nothing in your working directory changed — the question was explanatory, so this view is the only artifact.

What I deliberately left out

No branch that restates the centre in longer words.
No manufactured follow-up prompts — one bounded picker only, because format is what you asked about.
No images: nothing here is better shown than said.
No side investigation of your code; the question was about this exchange.

Leaving these out is the main way the format stays honest rather than decorative.

What this view can render

Enough to explain, not enough to be a canvas:

Styled text, lists and tables.
Grid and flow layout, and shapes drawn purely in CSS.
Light and dark presentations of the same saved design.
Icons from a fixed catalog, and images registered as assets.

Every panel in this answer is built from those pieces.

Where chat is simply better

Not a consolation prize — there are things prose does that this view cannot.

Rhythm. You can interrupt prose mid-thought. This composes first and publishes once, so there is nothing to interrupt.
Cheap throwaways. A two-line reply should cost two lines, not a shape.
Continuous text. Code, commands and long quotes read and copy better as one stream.
Room to be tentative. Prose can hedge out loud; a tidy box makes an uncertain claim look settled.

Where the graph earns its cost

The gains are mostly about what becomes visible — to you, and to me while composing.

It forces ranking. I can't pad. Composing the last answer, the structure made me cut filler prose would have let me keep.
Omissions show up. A gap in a small set of claims is noticeable; a missing paragraph is not.
Evidence stays separable from the claim it supports, so you can check one without rereading the other.
It persists and can be pointed at — which is exactly what you just did by annotating one piece of the last answer.

What “prefer” can honestly mean from me

I don't carry a taste between conversations, and I won't remember liking this one. So read “prefer” as instrumental, not felt: which format makes my mistakes easier for you to catch.

Prose rewards fluency

A wrong answer that reads smoothly passes without friction.

This view rewards ranking

But it can also dress a thin answer in tidy boxes and make it look thorough.

Hence a conditional preference rather than a loyal one: graph when there are parts to rank and evidence to check, chat when there aren't.
